Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition With 200 MegaPixels Camera
Samsung has officially unveiled its long-awaited thinner foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which comes at a higher price than its bulkier counterpart, the Z Fold 6.
The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition appears to be offered in a limited release, now listed on Samsung’s Korean website as a “thank you note for customers who love Galaxy Foldable.” The page includes details on specifications and pricing.
Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition Specifications and Size
The standout feature of the Z Fold SE is its impressive thinness, measuring just 10.6mm when closed and 4.9mm when opened. This is notably slim for Samsung’s Z Fold line, especially as many Chinese book-style foldables are now falling below the 10mm threshold.
Proportions
The Z Fold Special Edition measures 157.9 x 142.6 x 4.9mm when open and 157.9 x 72.8 x 10.6mm when closed, with a weight of 236g. While it’s not large by any means, it lacks the same elegance as the Honor Magic V3 foldable.
Samsung has made the Z Fold Special Edition more durable by incorporating an Armor Aluminum frame, water resistance, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 throughout. This toughness is a key reason it’s launching as the company’s third foldable phone of the year.
No S Pen Supported
Unfortunately, to achieve a more elegant design, Samsung has removed S Pen stylus support from the Z Fold SE, as previously rumored. This decision was made to avoid adding extra thickness from the digitizer.
The Z Fold Special Edition appears to be available only in a Black Shadow color, featuring a “straight-line pattern design” on its metallic finish. However, the screen differs from that of the Z Fold 6.
Dislpays
The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition features a 7.99-inch display, the largest Samsung has offered on a foldable. It boasts a resolution of 2184 x 1968 (QXGA+), with a peak brightness of 2,600 nits and a dynamic refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The cover display measures 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 (FHD+). Samsung hasn’t specified whether it features a higher refresh rate, but it’s likely that it does not support 120 Hz since that detail isn’t mentioned.
Cameras
In addition to its record-thin profile, the Z Fold SE features an impressive camera setup: a 200 MP main sensor, complemented by 12 MP and 10 MP lenses. This camera configuration surpasses that of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, despite the Special Edition being thinner than its predecessor.
The rear cameras offer 3x optical zoom and 2x optical zoom with an adaptive pixel sensor, along with up to 30x digital zoom. However, this setup falls short compared to Chinese or Google foldable phones that utilize periscope zoom lenses. Additionally, there’s a 10 MP selfie camera on the cover screen and a 4 MP under-display camera sensor at the top of the main display.
Processor And Battery
Samsung hasn’t revealed the processor details, but the octa-core chipset with clock speeds of 3.39GHz, 3.1GHz, 2.9GHz, and 2.2GHz corresponds to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, which also powers the Z Fold 6. Additionally, the rated battery capacity for the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is 4,272 mAh, which is lower than that of its Chinese counterparts.
