Faster than the Galaxy S24 Ultra and half the price, this new underrated phone is an incredible deal.

 The Nubia Z70 Ultra

If you’re searching for a flagship phone in the US, your options are limited to just a few choices.

You have the iPhones, of course, and on the Android side, there’s Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, with some people also considering the Google Pixel series. And… that’s about it!

However, there’s a brand new smartphone that almost seems too good to be true.

Here’s a quick summary:

  • Priced at half of the Galaxy S24 Ultra
  • Features a faster processor
  • Showcases a futuristic all-screen design
  • Boasts an ambitious camera system
  • 20% larger battery than the Galaxy S24 Ultra
  • Supports much faster charging speeds

Nubia may not be a household name in the United States, but it’s far from a new company.

In fact, Nubia has been focused on creating camera-centric phones in recent years. However, it’s with the latest Nubia Z70 Ultra that everything seems to come together perfectly.

It all starts with the first impression: Wow, this is truly an edge-to-edge phone!

Yes, there’s no selfie camera cutout, just a stunning all-screen display.

How is that possible?

Nubia hasn’t eliminated the selfie camera; instead, it has used new technology to hide the camera under the screen glass. This creates the illusion of a completely uninterrupted display. The downside, however, is that because the camera is beneath the glass, selfie quality isn’t as high as with traditional front-facing cameras.

While some may not be fond of this approach, I’m perfectly fine with it (and I think many others will be too). Personally, I don’t use the front camera often, but when I do, the quality is more than adequate, as Nubia uses a newer generation of under-screen camera technology.

Are the photos and videos as sharp and clean as those from a traditional front camera? Not exactly.

  About Price

The Nubia Z70 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, paired with a generous 12GB of RAM.

This is Qualcomm’s top processor for 2025, and while it will likely appear in the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra, Nubia got there first! It outperforms Google’s Pixel phones, which are equipped with the slower Tensor chipset.

So, what does this new chipset offer?

The Nubia Z70 Ultra handles daily tasks effortlessly, which is impressive but not entirely surprising, as most recent phones have been able to do that.

Where the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset really stands out is in gaming and more demanding tasks.

We have the benchmarks to back this up:

CPU Performance :

Honestly, this is a bit embarrassing.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra, priced at $1,300, is much slower than the Nubia. In fact, the Nubia’s processor is 50% faster than the one in the Galaxy S24 Ultra!

Gaming Benchmark:

 The Nubia Z70 Ultra

The gaming performance is even more impressive.

The Nubia Z70 Ultra not only beats the Galaxy S24 Ultra in the “high” gaming score but also performs significantly better in the “low” score.

The “low” score is measured after 20 minutes of gaming, once the phone heats up and throttles. In simple terms, this reflects the phone’s true performance.

And in that real-world performance, the Nubia Z70 Ultra is TWICE as fast as the Galaxy S24 Ultra!

Yes, that’s truly incredible, especially considering the Nubia is half the price of the Galaxy.

Battery Life:

Another advantage the Nubia has over the Galaxy is in battery size.

Samsung continues to include the S Pen in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and while some users appreciate it, many others simply don’t care about having it. However, due to the S Pen, Samsung has been limited to a 5,000 mAh battery in the S24 Ultra.

In comparison, the Nubia Z70 Ultra packs a 6,150 mAh battery—almost 20% larger.

As expected, this results in longer battery life (something everyone cares about), and here’s how it stacks up in our tests:

 The Nubia Z70 Ultra

The Nubia delivers an extra full hour of screen time, with an impressive performance in YouTube video streaming.

On top of that, the Nubia charges much faster. It supports 80W fast charging, while the Galaxy is limited to 45W.

Did we mention that the fast charger comes included in the box with the Nubia? It does.

Meanwhile, the slower 45W charger for the Samsung costs $50—and it’s NOT included in the box. Yikes!

 Camera:

You might think that nothing is perfect and that the Nubia can’t possibly outdo the camera on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

In some ways, you’d be right, but the answer is more complicated.

In our testing, the Nubia Z70 Ultra’s camera scored lower than the Galaxy and Pixel phones, mainly due to its tendency to produce oversharpened images and the under-display selfie camera, which doesn’t capture as much detail as a traditional one.

However, in other ways, we also appreciated the unique perspective that only this phone can offer.

What do we mean by that? For starters, its 35mm main camera.

Unlike other phones that use a wider 23mm to 24mm lens, which is more suited for landscape photography, the 35mm lens gives a distinct and creative approach to photography.

 The Nubia Z70 Ultra

A 35mm lens, however, is much better suited for portraits, and many photographers prefer using a 35mm prime lens on their mirrorless cameras. It’s often considered the perfect focal length for “environmental portraits.” With a wider lens, you end up with too much distortion, which can detract from the natural look of the subject.

 The Nubia Z70 Ultra

So, if people photography is your priority, the Nubia definitely has an edge over all other phones.

Still, technically, we found the Galaxy to offer better dynamic range and handle highlights more effectively, so don’t expect the Nubia to surpass it in every aspect like it does with raw performance. However, the 35mm focal length is what truly stands out in a positive way.

The most underrated phone of 2025?

All things considered, the Nubia Z70 Ultra is not only the most affordable phone with the top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, but it’s also the “flagship killer” of 2025.

Of course, there are a few compromises to reach that price, such as the absence of wireless charging. But honestly, who needs wireless charging when you can get a full day’s worth of use with just a 30-minute charge?

The camera, however, is the most debated aspect of the Nubia. While it’s innovative with the 35mm lens, its technical execution—particularly in handling highlights and dynamic range—leaves something to be desired.

For me, those small compromises aren’t deal-breakers. It’s clear that Nubia is strategically appealing to consumers with this phone. The brand is aware of its relatively low profile in the US market and understands that only an outstanding offer can convince iPhone and Galaxy users to make the switch.

Fortunately, the new Nubia Z70 Ultra delivers just that: an incredibly strong offer. Those looking to get the most value for their money should definitely keep it on their radar.

The Nubia Z70 Ultra is available for purchase through the official Nubia store in the United States.
