“16GB RAM on the Galaxy S25 Ultra: A Thrilling Breakthrough or a Disappointing Return to 2021 Standards?
Galaxy S25 Ultra
How excited are you for the Galaxy S25 Ultra based on the latest credible Galaxy S25 rumors and speculation from various global sources? Moderately? That seems fair, as Samsung appears to be preparing several notable upgrades over the S24 Ultra, though nothing truly groundbreaking or game-changing—at least not yet.
One notable improvement, though unlikely to be mind-blowing, is the recently revealed 16GB RAM on the S25 Ultra, available in 512GB and 1TB storage variants. While this will outpace the most expensive S24 Ultra and Z Fold 6 models, supporting more advanced AI applications, it’s worth noting that the S25 Ultra’s memory “upgrade” will simply match what the Galaxy S21 Ultra offered back in 2021.
Wait, Really?
It’s true—the S21 Ultra, released nearly four years ago, offered storage options from 128GB to 512GB and two advanced RAM configurations: 12GB and 16GB. What’s even more surprising is that Samsung paired 16GB of RAM with just 256GB of internal storage for a limited-edition S21 Ultra configuration, which never received a direct sequel.

In contrast, the S24 Ultra comes with 12GB of RAM, even when paired with a massive 1TB of storage. This might make you wonder—did the S21 Ultra really need a 16GB RAM variant, let alone two?
The answer is almost certainly no, the S21 Ultra didn’t need a 16GB RAM variant. But let’s be honest—what we need doesn’t always bring the same joy as what we want, despite logic and common sense. So no, I won’t blame you if you were disappointed to see Samsung downgrade from 16GB to 12GB RAM in its top-tier S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra, and S24 Ultra models.
I can also understand if you’re feeling indifferent towards the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s expected return of the 16GB RAM option, especially after doing some research and putting together the following list:
Here is the list combined in alphabetical order:
Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro
Asus ROG Phone 9
Asus Zenfone 10
Asus Zenfone 9
Google Pixel 9 Pro
Honor Magic 7 Pro
Motorola Edge 50 Pro
Motorola Edge 50 Ultra
OnePlus 10T
OnePlus 11
OnePlus 12
OnePlus 12R
OnePlus Nord 4
Oppo Find X8
Pixel 9 Pro XL
Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Realme GT 6
Realme GT 7 Pro
Vivo X200 Pro
Vivo X Fold 3
Xiaomi 13 Ultra
Xiaomi 14 Ultra
Xiaomi 15 Pro
Can you guess what all of these devices have in common? That's right, at least one 16GB RAM variant. And believe me, it took a bit of research to uncover all these products. There are even more like them, particularly in Asian markets. As you can see, they're not all ultra-expensive Android flagships—hello, OnePlus Nord 4, 10T, and 12R!
Should Samsung leap all the way up to 24GB of RAM?At least three of the handsets listed above (and likely a few others) already pack up to 24GB of memory, so I completely understand if some of you are hoping the Galaxy S25 Ultra will surpass its predecessors and join the exclusive club of future-proof mobile multitasking powerhouses. However, I’m not aware of any such rumors at the moment, and I don’t think Samsung would be wise to take the overkill RAM route for a device that’s already expected to cost a small fortune.
While I have no idea how much the Galaxy AI toolset will evolve in terms of real-world applicability and memory demands, I highly doubt that something running smoothly on a Galaxy S24 with 8GB of RAM will suddenly start to stutter unless Samsung adds another 16GB on top.
So yes, I’m almost certain that the S25 Ultra will "settle" with 16GB of RAM, and while that may feel unremarkable, it’s worth appreciating Samsung's gradual evolution of its flagship. After all, not every company can be a trendsetter in every field, and at least the Galaxy S21 Ultra will finally have a worthy S-series counterpart soon.
