Motorola’s 2025 Moto G and Moto G Power Best In Segments

Motorola's 2025

Motorola’s 2025 Moto G and Moto G Power handsets are set to claim the US bang-for-buck crown.

Motorola's 2025

While most Android power users are likely focused on the upcoming Galaxy S25 launch, those with tighter budgets may want to pay attention to Motorola today. You might find yourself willing to spend two or three hundred of your hard-earned dollars on their latest offerings.

The master of affordable handsets with solid specs and often surprisingly premium designs is back at it, introducing two new models to the popular Moto G family. These devices are set to hit US stores, both offline and online, in the coming weeks.

The Moto G Power (2025) is a modest upgrade, featuring a more durable design.

Priced at $299.99, the same as its predecessor, the Moto G Power (2025) maintains the same 5,000mAh battery with 30W wired and 15W wireless charging speeds as the Moto G Power 5G (2024). However, the 2025 edition offers improved durability, featuring IP69 water and dust resistance, Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and MIL-STD-810H certification.

This marks an upgrade from the “water-repellent” design of last year’s model, now providing full underwater protection for up to 30 minutes. It also offers enhanced resistance to extreme temperatures, high humidity, and accidental drops from heights of up to four feet.

While Motorola isn’t explicitly marketing the new Moto G Power as a “rugged” device, it certainly seems durable enough for outdoor enthusiasts. With its enhanced design, you can take this affordable handset on daily adventures without worrying about its eye-catching body cracking or breaking at the first sign of trouble.

That’s right, the Moto G Power (2025) is also a stunner, featuring the same vegan leather finish as its predecessor (and many recent Motorola devices). It comes in stylish new Slate Gray and Leaf Green color options.

Interestingly, the processor for the Moto G Power (2025) is still under wraps, which isn’t typically a great sign. However, the other disclosed specs and features are impressive, including a large 6.8-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 50MP primary rear camera paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 16MP front camera, and several audio enhancements such as Dolby Atmos, Bass Boost, and Hi-Res Audio.

More details will likely be revealed closer to the Moto G Power (2025)’s February 6 US release date, but what we know so far should be enough to excite bargain hunters. This is especially true for customers on T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, AT&T, Cricket, Straight Talk, Total Wireless, Verizon, US Cellular, or Consumer Cellular, as the Moto G Power 5G (2025) is confirmed to debut on all these carriers “in the coming months.”

The Moto G (2025) is a significant improvement over its predecessor.

If you’re looking for noticeable upgrades that can significantly enhance your user experience, the new Moto G (2025) delivers. It boasts a 6.7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a vegan leather finish, and 30W charging support—improvements in these areas compared to the 2024 model.

Despite these significant upgrades, the Moto G (2025) manages to maintain its predecessor’s ultra-affordable $199.99 price tag. However, this is likely achieved by making a few key compromises compared to the Moto G Power (2025).

Two of the most noticeable compromises in the Moto G (2025) are the lack of IP69 and MIL-STD-810H certifications, as well as the absence of wireless charging. Additionally, compared to the Moto G 5G (2024), the 2025 edition may disappoint some with its use of the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor instead of the more familiar and popular Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.

Despite these compromises, 5G speeds remain a key feature of the Moto G (2025), along with its impressive 5,000mAh battery capacity. The device also retains a water-repellent body (though not fully resistant), a 50MP main camera paired with a largely ineffective 2MP Macro Vision lens, and a 16MP front-facing camera, all contributing to its strong value proposition.

Incredibly, the Moto G (2025) includes all the premium audio technologies found in the G Power (2025), along with pre-loaded Android 15 software. It is also set for an even earlier US debut on January 30 in a “universally unlocked” variant, followed by a broader release across all the carriers mentioned earlier, plus Boost Mobile, Xfinity Mobile, Google Fi, Spectrum, and Optimum Mobile.
